Lore stuff - ilrak - 02-26-2015

This is the second attempt by the gods to create a paradise for the Auratus.

The first attempt was a smaller pond, with some rocky areas to hide in and plenty of plant life to both provide extra sustenance and breeding areas for the fish. Unfortunately, predators were still able to get many of the fish, and the final blow to this paradise was a poison that killed all but five inhabitants of the pond.

After a long period of construction and rebuilding, the five inhabitants were reintroduced to the New Pond. As more fish joined this pond, they became the "Auratus", the chosen. Their main duty is to defend their pond and please the gods by repopulating this pond.

Goldie A.K.A The Prophet

Goldie, the Prophet, is the oldest member of the Original School. He is the only one who remembers a time before the first pond. A few missing scales reveal a history of hardship, and the blind eye is one of the last reminders of the creation of the Forbidden Zone and the destruction of the First Pond.

Sent to the Place of Judgement as a juvenile, the Prophet had one of many paths he could have taken. His life could be short and brutal, ending in completing the cycle of life as so many of his peers had done before him. He could also be sent to Indoors, a place of either paradise or torture. The path he desired, however, was to live in The Pond, a place he learned of from Red, a peer of his who managed to stay in the Place of Judgement longer than anyone before him had. The trick, the Prophet learned, was to eat more, swim faster, and grow larger than any of his peers so that he could be moved to a better waiting place. He did many things he was not proud of in his time in the Place of Judgement, but soon, he was moved to a place with other fish, closer to his size. There, he learned of the allies, The Koi. They were the ones who spoke of the Gods who care for their kind and who are in charge of the Judgement.

It wasn’t long before the Prophet was chosen, along with two female companions and three others with hunched backs (he later learned that their god-given name was “Ryukin” and his kind was “Common”). The travel to their Judgement was bumpy and long, their only view being each other and the clear shield that kept them from freedom. After the final stop, they were lifted up and carried to a beautiful pond. They waited in the shield, feeling the temperature adjust. Soon, they were released and able to explore the territories. It was a very basic pond, with floating plants that would make for a good nursery, and some hiding spots that would possibly keep them safe.

The Prophet’s twelfth moon and first weather cycle in the pond led to the choosing of his first mate, a red and white Ryukin who was easy to chase due to her slower speed. However, most of the young were eaten, something that the gods seemed disappointed in. This led to the Prophet beginning to think of a new code to live by to please the gods, one which he tried to teach to the others in the pond. His mate seemed to agree, but the next breeding saw her eating some of their children and the children of others, as well as another fish fathering her offspring, something that The Prophet seemed to resent for reasons he was unsure of. Soon, he was finding himself mostly alone, pondering the Gods rather than foraging all day with the others.

It was during this time that he first saw The Raven, a creature he instinctively felt a twinge of dread about as she came to the edge of the pond, eyeing the remains of the floating food curiously. When she went for the food instead of The Prophet, he felt a little calmer. At least this “Dark Shadow” would be a safe one for now.

The first casualty in the pond was a juvenile who survived the first breeding. He was swallowed by The Webbed Death when he ventured into the floating plants for small insects. The Prophet was the only one who mourned, his parents having forgotten about him after his egg had been laid. This led to the Prophet beginning to become more aggressive in his teaching, gathering up the fry after hatching to try and save them. He began to try and teach them about his feelings on what would please the Gods as well as how to avoid The Webbed Death, believing that it was the main predator of the pond.

The Red and White Ryukin fell prey to the Masked Death after three weather cycles, frightening most of the school away from shore foraging for a moon. The Prophet now had a new creature to warn the fry about. He also began to care for the Red and White Ryukin’s last son as if he were his own.

More calamities occurred, including an attack from the Spear Faced Shadow and a cold snap that took several fry. The final calamity occurred on The Prophet’s fifth weather cycle. In the starts of the reeds on the North bank, several large cylinders were found. The water smelled and tasted worse the closer any exploring fish got. After smelling the water, choking would occur, leading to death. The Prophet searched for survivors, at his own peril, finding his adopted son, and three commons, one red and white female, one gold female, and one fry who was barely starting to change colors. He led them to the water’s edge, beginning to succumb to the poison. His last sight before nearly succumbing, was of one of the gods pulling the smaller fish out of the water and into the clear shield.

To his amazement, the gods were able to save him as well, but his right eye was permanently robbed of sight. He found out, from the gold female, that they were at Indoors. She had overheard the gods talking about the death of the Pond and possibly rebuilding it. This made The Prophet happy as this meant that the gods were in fact pleased with his small school. The Prophet soon made friends with a large, hairy creature that seemed to be called an “Alex”. This creature would often stick his nose at the water and bring left overs of his own food to the school (something that the gods did not seem to like).

It was during this time that The Raven came to live at Indoors. She was brought in one day before final light, skinny, starved, and missing her left eye. The gods worked for the entire night on her before retiring her to a small, barred box, across from the Indoor Pond. When she was finally strong enough to speak and sit up on her own, she would venture out and over to the Indoor Pond, She and The Prophet began to speak, the Raven excited to have some fish friends who may share morsels of food with her and The Prophet, happy to have a left eye in the sky. The Raven, being a creature who spoke many languages, called them a strange name that The Prophet began to enjoy and adopt for his people: "Auratus".

It was during the time of the Indoor Pond that the school received their God-Given names. The Gold female was now Poole, the Red and White Ryukin male was now New Fish (as he looked like one after recovering from the poison, The Red and White Common was Izzy, The Gold and Black juvenile was named Bowman, and The Prophet received his name of Goldie from the tiny god. It was also during this time that New Fish and Poole had their first children, LB and Banner being the only ones to survive the entire time of Indoors, having figured out how to avoid the black water cycling tube.

After almost two weather cycles indoors, The school was placed into a clear shield and taken away to the New Pond. It was a beautiful new home and, after much exploring, it seemed to go on forever. Soon new inhabitants were added to the pond, happily greeted by Alex and send to the Neutral Zone, the home of the first School, to learn the ways of The Pond and the ways to please the gods. Even though there are still dangers in the pond, it has become a haven for Goldfish who have been blessed by the gods.
